11:30am - 01:00pm : ’Conversation with Tariq Ramadan’ - Prof. Ramadan will present the activities of CILE Center - ROOM 145AB " During this session, Tariq Ramadan will talk about the three main fields on which he has been focusing over the last 25 years : Islamic sciences and references (aqida, fiqh, usul al fiqh in particular) ; Challenges in Muslim majority countries and Western Muslims. The conversation will lead to introducing the audience to the new project on Islamic applied ethics with the Research Center on Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) inaugurated in January 2012. The philosophy of the Center and its objectives will be discussed through the eleven fields that are studied in the Center : Islamic methodology, education, medicine, environment, economy, governance, arts, psychology, gender, food and media. The audience will be able to ask questions and find out how to become involved with the activities of CILE".

Description : Two fundamental freedoms enacted by shari’a are the right to life and the right to religion. This session first looks at how the shari’a objective for preservation of life upholds the sanctity of human life and acknowledges our responsibility to safeguard it ; the second part examines how the objective for the protection of religion provides an essential social framework for the right of every person to search for truth and to worship God, or not.
